QuantaDose™ 2nd Edition UVC test card Is made durable with a standard PVC credit card thickness of 0.76 millimeters (1⁄32 in).
The QuantaDose™ 2nd Edition dual-wavelength multi-strip UVC test card measures UV intensity with a very specialized analyte for wide-band photochromic UV dosimetry combined with a narrow-band short-wave fluorescent indicator for testing optimal UVC germicidal wavelengths.

QuantaDose™ 2nd Edition has created a specially formulated ink chemistry that is sensitive to only optimal germicidal UVC which will not fluoresce to visible light or UVA and UVB. This ensures only germicidal wavelengths between 250-275nm are shown in green.
Top Light Sensor Test Wavelength of UV Exposure: When exposed to optimal UVC germicidal wavelengths, the QuantaDose test card undergoes an instant color change to a green where fluorescence is directly related to the energy value received. Fluorescence stops when excited electrons release all photos within nanoseconds after exposure.
Bottom Light Sensor Test Intensity of UV Exposure: When exposed to UVA, UVB, and UVC wavelengths, the QuantaDose test card undergoes a gradual color change to purple, changing from clear to light purple and dark purple directly related to intensity or the energy value received. When under germicidal light the word ULTRAVIOLET appears at between 300-500 Microwatt per square meter [µW/cm²]. Photochromic dosimeter color is temporary for checking UV intensity after exposure and should be checked immediately after exposure for the most accurate intensity results.

This ensures only germicidal wavelengths are being detected in the top sensor test area, while the other UV test sensor area covers a wide UV spectrum of UV intensity using a reversible dosimeter that detects UV between 200-400 nm from the lower test strip area on the QuantaDose™ UV Test Card.

The dosimeter uses a specially formulated ink that is designed to be reactive to shortwave ultraviolet radiation (UVC), not visible light or UVA and UVB. This ensures only germicidal wavelengths are being measured in the dosimeter test area.
There has not been an easy and economical way to visualize the UV disinfection process that has been cost-effective for everyday consumers of UVC germicidal light products. People don’t live in medically staffed clean rooms, so an effective dosage under current CDC PPE disinfection guidelines for Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is 1,000 – 3,000 mJ/cm2 to ensure 99.9% deactivation when dust, moisture, and other particulate matter is present, such as fiber filtration used in face-masks.
The QuantaDose™ will have a noticeable color change that occurs between approximately 300-500 Microwatt per square meter [µW/cm²] in the lower dose-response area under direct 253.7 nm UVC light. This is on the lowest end of acceptable UVC power intensities allowed under the CDC’s newly updated recommended guidelines for using UVGI in a rapid disinfection process of between 5 and 10 minutes.
If you are not getting a color change displaying the word ULTRAVIOLET in the lower section of the Quantadose™ test card while the UV-C indicator is green, the UVC power from the UV light is likely not reaching the desired level of germicidal intensity required under CDC guidelines.
At an intensity of approximately 3000 µW/cm² of direct 253.7 nm UVC light, the QuantaDose will achieve maximum color concentration in about 15 seconds, the first signs of the word ULTRAVIOLET indicate an intensity of approximately 300-500 µW/cm².
It is very important that BOTH QuantaDose™ indicators have visible color distinction when confirming effective UVGI intensity from consumer-grade UVC products.
The top UVC indicator confirms the correct germicidal wavelengths are present, simultaneously the bottom UVC indicator detects germicidal irradiation intensity with an increased color concentration around the word ULTRAVIOLET.
The bottom UV dosimeter intensity section is reactive to wide-band UV between 200-400 nm capable of detecting UVA/UVB and UVC wavelength.
This allows your QuantaDose™ card to also work for gauging the SUN’s UV intensity so you can take necessary precautions such as sunscreen or shade.
